BodyMods Aftercare for Piercings and Tattoos

BodyMods Aftercare for Piercings and Tattoos

So you’ve just been pierced or tattooed. It’s exciting, empowering, and maybe a little tender. Proper aftercare is what turns that fresh piece into something that heals beautifully and lasts for years. At BodyMods, aftercare isn’t an afterthought;  it’s part of the experience.

If it’s your first piercing, your newest tattoo, or your tenth visit, following the right aftercare steps helps reduce irritation, prevent infection, and keep your body art looking its best.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Piercing Aftercare: What to Expect & How to Heal Properly

Healing a piercing is a process, not a race. Some redness, swelling, and soreness are completely normal in the early stages. What matters most is consistency and patience.

Cleaning Your Piercing

  • Clean your piercing twice daily using a sterile saline solution (Recommended: H20 Piercing Spray Solution)
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing
  • Gently soak or spray a q-tip to apply the solution delicately but accurately to the area, no harsh rubbing or twisting

Oral Piercing

  • Rinse mouth for 30-60 seconds with H2Ocean Oral Rinse after meals for the entire healing time.
  • Do not use it more than 4-5 times a day.

Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or homemade salt mixes as these can dry out the skin and slow the healing process.

What to Avoid!

  • Touching or playing with your jewellery
  • Sleeping directly on fresh ear or facial piercings
  • Swimming in pools, lakes, or hot tubs during early healing
  • Changing jewellery too early

Your body needs time to adjust even if it feels fine, healing is still happening beneath the surface.

Quality Jewellery Matters

All BodyMods piercings use implant-grade materials, like 316LVM Surgical Steel and G23 titanium, which won’t rust, fade, or tarnish and is safe for sensitive skin and allergies. High-quality jewellery reduces irritation and supports a smoother healing process.

Tattoo Aftercare: Protecting Your New Ink

A fresh tattoo is essentially an open wound, therefore caring for it properly ensures clean healing, minimal scabbing, and vibrant results.

First 24–48 Hours

Your artist will let you know if you’re using a wrap or second-skin bandage and when to remove it.

Ongoing Care

  • Moisturize regularly (but don’t overdo it)
  • Avoid tight clothing rubbing the tattoo
  • No soaking, swimming, or sun exposure during healing
  • Do not pick, scratch, or peel even if it’s tempting

Healing times vary, but most tattoos take 2–4 weeks to heal on the surface, with deeper layers continuing to settle after.

What’s Normal & When to Check In

It’s normal to experience:

  • Slight bleeding
  • Mild redness
  • Swelling
  • Clear or slightly yellow fluid
  • Itching during healing

However, if you notice increasing pain, excessive swelling, heat, pus, or redness spreading beyond the area, reach out to your Studio or a medical professional.

Our Crew is always happy to answer questions, no concern is too small.

Aftercare is Part of the Commitment

Piercings and tattoos are personal. They mark moments, relationships, and self-expression and taking care of them is part of honoring that choice.

When you choose BodyMods, you’re not just getting pierced or tattooed, you’re getting professional guidance, premium materials, and support long after you leave the Studio.
