What's a retainer for piercings?
A retainer holds a piercing open while hiding or disguising it. Available for nearly every piercing, they can be more helpful than you'd expect.
In general, a retainer is clear or flesh coloured. They're made of Bioplast (PTFE) or Lucite (a high grade acrylic- we like it because it doesn't leech harmful chemicals into your skin). They are temporary placeholders, and not meant for long term wear. Some retainers have threading and can stay in for long periods, but most have only o-rings, if anything, holding them in place and are definitely meant for the short term.
Why would you need a retainer?
A retainer for piercings is perfect for jobs and events where piercings might not be appropriate (or even allowed!). We hate to admit this- but even as piercings move to the mainstream, piercings still have a bad rep in some circles. Retainers let you slip into these circles undetected- if you want to.
Aside from blending in with the masses, these retainers have a practical use. They're also great for MRIs and surgery. Many medical procedures need you to take out your piercings because of the metal. Retainers let you keep your piercing open without risking your health.
These are the main uses for retainers. Do you use them for something else?
