All About UV Tattoo Ink

UV tattoo ink is a great way to spice up a tattoo. You can add unexpected details to your design or even get an invisible tattoo!

But how do UV tattoo ink work?

UV ink is a ultraviolet reactive ink. This means it glows under a black light.

There are two types of ink. One ink is a traditional tattoo ink that uses natural ingredients that happen to be UV reactive. The other is ink mixed with phosphorus. In large amounts, phosphorus is carcinogenic. That said, it’s also available in small amounts in things like paper and potatoes.

Phosphorus ink is runnier than regular ink. Your artist should take care to not overwork the skin when tattooing with it.

With either ink, it’s important not to smear other ink into the UV ink. This will dilute the effect and discolour the tattoo. You want to find an experienced artist to do your tattoo. We offer UV tattooing at The Studio by BodyMods in Fleetwood.

UV tattoos have a bad rep, but that’s because of their shady origins. When UV tattoos first hit the scene, the inks were only available through unsafe vendors. And the quality of the ink showed in the work. Nowadays, reputable ink manufacturers are releasing lines of UV ink. These inks are safe to use and heal like regular tattoos.

We recommend Second Skin bandages to help seal in your ink and help the tattoo heal better. The after care and healing process for UV tattoos is the same as a regular tattoo. Like normal ink, UV ink fades with time. This can affect the glowiness of your tattoo.

If you’re getting an invisible UV tattoo, it will be visible for a while it’s healing. Take this into consideration if you’re hoping to surprise your friends with it on a night out.
