New Year New Look: Get Your Ears Pierced

Getting your ears pierced is a simple and easy procedure which results in you being able to wear all the different jewelry you’ve ogled but never been able to wear. Ear lobe piercings have been common for centuries, all over the world. In fact, controversial as it may be in the West, it’s common practice in many countries to pierce the lobes of young children as they believe they heal faster.  History lesson aside, if this is your first piercing ever, congratulations! Ear lobe piercings are probably the least painful piercings you can get. If you want a second or a third piercing on your ears, there are plenty of different looks you can achieve depending on where you get it. Read on to learn all about getting your ears pierced for the first, second, third or even fourth time!

How old do I need to be to get my ears pierced?

At Bodymods, we require you to be at least 16 years of age to get your ears pierced, however, we will pierce children and teens with parental consent.

What to look for in a piercing studio?

While it may feel like you can get your ears pierced just about anywhere these days, going to a professional piercing studio has many advantages. Apart from being sure that their piercing staff is fully trained, you can rest assured that they use sterile needles to carry out their procedures.  What about a gun, you ask? No professional piercer will use a gun. This is for several reasons, the biggest one being that guns will never be as sterile as a piercing needle. A piercing needle is also gentler on cartilage which allows your piercing to heal faster and better. At the Bodymods Studio, we make sure that we carry out piercings with 316LVM surgical steel jewelry from our store, so that we know that the jewelry you wear during your piercing is safe.

Different Types of Ear Piercings

There are whole bunch of ear piercings you can get. Choose one depending on what you are comfortable with – look and pain wise. Some of them include:

Ear Lobe: This is the most common type of piercing and the least painful as there is no cartilage in the lower part of the ear. Some people also opt for multiple ear lobe piercings to get the look they want.

Helix Piercing: Helix piercings refer to piercings on your auricle or outer rim of the ear. There are several different spots along your helix where you can choose to get one or more piercings. These piercings are slightly more painful than the ear lobe and do take longer to heal.

Tragus Piercing: A tragus piercing is a piercing though cartilage that covers your ear canal partially. They can take a while to heal, and you do need to take extra care while using your phone etc., during the healing period, but look really cute.

Conch Piercing: A conch piercing is a piercing in the central part of your ear. As it is carried out where the ear is the thickest, it can take the longest time to heal. However, it is a favourite with many piercers and celebrities. It’s easy to see why though, conch piercings look good on everybody. Whatever kind of piercing you choose, the right aftercare is a must.
